After Covid-related travel restrictions canceled my tour of Morocco, I wondered what I should do with my Air France ticket, and decided to use it for a trip to Paris instead! I'd been to Paris as a (spoiled) little kid and hated it, but as a grownup, with only myself to please, it was a wonderful way to get back to travel as the world re-opened after the Covid-19 pandemic.
While you shouldn't miss spending time at the Louvre, Paris has dozens of small museums which are often free of crowds and a great way to explore specific time periods or types of art.
I reveled in a once-in-a-lifetime upgrade to business class on Air France!
Once I checked into my hotel, I had lunch at a local cafe, explored the Luxembourg Gardens, checked up on the repairs to Notre Dame de Paris, and climbed the dome of the Pantheon for spectacular city views.
I got up bright and early for a tour of the Louvre, snapped a picture of myself in pandemic mask at the Mona Lisa, and took a wonderful early evening wine tour around the 5th arrondissement.
After a more leisurely morning, I explored the Musée Nissim de Camondo, a preserved early 20th Century mansion, viewed Asian Art at the Musée Cernuschi, admired the Rembrandt exhibt at the Musée Jacquemart-André. In the evening I took a fun food tour in Le Marais.
Today was dedicated to Versailles! My small tour group took the train, and got a comprehensive look at the palace and gardens on beautiful Fall day.
After completing the Covid test required for U.S. re-entry with the friendly pharmacist close to my hotel, I embarked on mission to treat myself at Galleries Lafayette, one of Paris' iconic department stores.
After a glamorous lunch at the airport I enjoyed a pleasant return flight on Air France and looked forward to unpacking my suitcase full of treasures.
